Xero integration & custom reporting

Still exporting Xero data, rebuilding reports or copying information between systems? I build connections and reporting workflows around the information your business needs, with finance knowledge behind the design.

Keep Xero. Improve the work around it.Connect accounting with your reporting, sales or operational tools. Start with a focused requirement, then agree the data, checks, training and support needed to make it useful.

Work directly with Stephen Mitchell. Liverpool based, supporting businesses remotely across the UK, with occasional on-site visits by arrangement.

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

Where is manual work filling the gaps?

A useful integration starts with a business problem: a report that takes too long, repeated entry or information that never reaches the people who need it.

Every report starts with another export

Xero holds the accounting records, but preparing a management pack or cash forecast still means downloading, combining and tidying information.

HOW I CAN HELP

Bring the agreed accounting data into a repeatable reporting workflow, with useful layouts, refresh dates and checks against the source.

The same information is entered in two places

Sales, purchasing or operational tools hold records that finance has to re-enter, match or update separately.

HOW I CAN HELP

Map the handoff and connect supported records through an API or suitable connector, with clear rules for matching and review.

The existing connection needs constant attention

Missing updates, duplicates or failed transfers leave someone checking whether the systems still agree.

HOW I CAN HELP

Review the connection, make exceptions visible and test how failed transfers, corrections and retries should be handled.

REPORTING & PRACTICAL AI

Bring accounting data into the conversation

The scope can include management accounts, cash-flow inputs, customer or supplier reporting and information combined with other business systems. Xero’s accounting APIs provide supported routes for accessing reports and records; we confirm the information and permissions required for your project.

AI can help prepare commentary or answer questions using approved information. The design still needs clear calculations, source information and a review process. Conventional automation remains an option where it fits the task.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Finance understanding and custom development

I have implemented AI agents connected to Xero to extract accounting information for stakeholder reports. I have also developed custom API connections with Xero and other software.

My wider work includes cash-flow models with integrated P&L reporting, invoice-finance requirements and a completed Navision-to-Xero migration. That experience helps connect the technical design with the accounting purpose.

CHECKS, TRAINING & SUPPORT

Make the connection manageable after handover

We agree how data is matched, how outputs are checked and what happens when something fails. Any workflow that writes records needs appropriate validation and approval. Users need to understand what the connection does and how to review exceptions.

Monthly support can cover connection maintenance, investigation of failures, reporting changes and further training. We agree responsibilities, scope and fees before work starts.

PLANNING THE WORK

Questions before we start

Can you connect Xero to our CRM or operational system?

We first review the other system, the records you need to move and the supported connection options. The design can use an existing connector or a custom API integration where the available interfaces support the requirement.

Can the connection be used for reporting only?

Yes. We can scope a connection to retrieve the information needed for reporting, without including a workflow that creates or updates transactions. The access requested should match the agreed purpose.

Will our reporting update in real time?

We agree a useful refresh frequency based on the data sources, available interfaces and usage limits. Scheduled or on-demand refresh may meet the need. Reports should show the period and refresh status clearly.

Do we have to use AI?

No. A reliable data connection, existing software feature or conventional automation may be enough. AI is an option where it has a clear use, suitable data arrangements and a practical review process.

Will we need to share our Xero password?

Connections use Xero’s authorisation process, with access granted for the agreed work. We also agree who owns the integration and how access and ongoing support will be managed.

Are there ongoing costs?

There may be software, connector, hosting or API usage charges, as well as any agreed support fee. We identify the relevant costs and responsibilities before you commit to the work.

THE FIRST CONVERSATION
