Move on from an outdated system with a plan for your data, your reporting and the people using it. I manage finance and business system migrations from the initial review through to testing, training and support after go-live.
Work with the systems you have. Move to the systems you need. The service is platform-independent. Bring your current system and preferred replacement, or start with a review of the options. We establish the available access, export and import routes before agreeing the work.
Work directly with Stephen Mitchell. Liverpool based, supporting businesses remotely across the UK, with occasional on-site visits by arrangement.
A migration should address the workarounds that prompted the move and give your team a dependable starting point in the new system.
You have outgrown the current setup
Routine tasks need extra spreadsheets, useful reports are difficult to produce and new requirements are hard to accommodate.
HOW I CAN HELP
Define the reporting, controls and workflows you need, then assess how the replacement will support them.
You are worried about taking bad data with you
Duplicate records, inconsistent codes and unexplained balances make it difficult to know what is ready to transfer.
HOW I CAN HELP
Clean and map the agreed data, investigate exceptions and reconcile trial imports before the final move.
The business cannot stop for the change
Invoicing, supplier payments and month-end still need to happen while staff learn a different system.
HOW I CAN HELP
Plan the transition around operating deadlines, test key tasks with users and prepare training and recovery arrangements.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
What your migration project can include
01
A clear migration scope
Requirements, records and history to retain, reporting needs, responsibilities and a timetable built around business deadlines.
02
Clean data and a reconciled transfer
Account and field mappings, an exception log, trial loads, balance checks and documented approval before cutover.
03
A team ready for the new system
Tested workflows, practical user training, handover notes and agreed support for the first reporting cycle.
PRACTICAL DELIVERY
Agree the accounting detail before the move
We decide how to handle opening balances, outstanding customer and supplier items, historical transactions, supporting documents and reporting dimensions. The scope depends on the information you need and what the source and destination support. Reconciliations show how the transferred records tie back to the agreed source position.
I independently led a completed Microsoft Navision to Xero migration, covering data cleansing, chart-of-accounts and balance migration, reconciliations, process redesign and team training. That accounting and implementation experience informs my approach to other source and target systems.
A monthly arrangement can cover reporting improvements, data-quality checks, integration maintenance and further training. We agree the scope and responsibilities so your team knows where to get help and what is included.
We agree deliverables, responsibilities and fees before work starts.
PLANNING THE WORK
Questions before we start
Can you work with our current system and chosen replacement?+
Yes. The service is not restricted to one software provider or migration pair. I assess data structures, supported transfer routes, accounting requirements and any supplier involvement before confirming the scope.
Can you help us choose a new system?+
Yes. We can review the requirements, existing workflows and reporting needs, compare suitable options and test how they would handle the tasks that matter to your business.
How much will the migration cost, and how long will it take?+
This depends on the systems, number of entities, data quality, history required, integrations and deadline. We agree the scope, stages and fees after reviewing those factors.
What information do you need for the first conversation?+
Your current system, any proposed replacement, the reason for changing, approximate data volumes and any deadline. A short description is enough initially; we agree a suitable route before exchanging detailed business records.
THE FIRST CONVERSATION
What needs to work better after your move?
Tell me which system you use, what is causing difficulty and whether you have a replacement in mind. We can use a short phone or Teams call to establish the next step.
